ELECTRIC KIWI WAS FOUNDED by a group of Whakatane schoolmates who saw an opportunity to combine their expertise in information technology and the electricity market to fill an unserved niche in the market. Since their first customer in 2015 until present day, Electric Kiwi has gone from strength to strength. The online-only company has been the fastest growing electricity retailer in New Zealand over the last five years and, among many other accolades, received a People’s Choice Award from Consumer NZ this year.
Part of the company’s success can be attributed to innovating and modernising the traditional call centre, replacing traditional call centres with online live chat and social media support channels. With the Customer Experience team able to deal with multiple queries at any one time, customers are not left on hold for long periods, waiting for someone to take their enquiry. And if their customer satisfaction results are anything to go by, Electric Kiwi is doing something right, because customers love the ease of contacting their electricity retailer.
Although 2020 has been challenging, Electric Kiwi’s online strategy helped make the transition for staff to working from home during lockdown simple, and the newfound autonomy now means that they can continue to work flexibly from the office or home, depending on what suits their individual needs.
Electric Kiwi’s vision is to be the most-loved power company in New Zealand, and going solely from the awards they have received so far in 2020, they have well and truly reached that milestone.
